Tashu - From Bollywood to Tollywood Hyderabad: Tashu Kaushik confesses that the story of her getting into acting is very 'filmy'. 'I was spotted by someone at an inter-college festival, and offered 'Darwaza Bandh Rakho' under the RGV banner. Initially I thought it was a prank and I hung up. But, later they called again and convinced me that it was for real.'
Tashu, who plans to do a PhD in Economics, believes that things never go as planned. 'I never thought I would be in this industry. Since most of the people in my Bollywood debut had a South connection, I was offered 'Raju Maharaju',' says Tashu about her 2009 Tollywood debut.
Talking about the difference between the two film industries, Tashu says, 'People in both the industries are very passionate about film making. But, there are two major differences. First, I have noticed that people down south are a lot more organised and punctual when it comes to shooting. Second, Hindi films have options of female-oriented roles, but Telugu films have always been male-centric. I see the trend changing though.'
And what about adjusting to a new language'Telugu'having been born and brought up in Kanpur?
'Initially it was as good as speaking in an alien language. But, now I can pretty much strike a conversation in Telugu,' says Tashu, who has done four films in Telugu so far. She further adds on a lighter note, 'Whenever I go back to Mumbai, I show off my Telugu and nobody understands a word.'
With two recent releases' 'Vykuntapali' and 'Dussasana' 'Tashu is keeping her fingers crossed for some more good work coming her way. But, she is also prepared to handle success and failure.
'Only people who are emotionally strong can survive in the film industry. One day your're a star and the other day you're totally lost. It's all about survival of the fittest. I am blessed to have a supportive family, who help me get through the ups and downs,' says Tashu, before signing off.
