Glamour marks MAA cinema awards function Hyderabad: It was a starry Sunday night. An amalgam of glamour, anticipation, and entertainment; the Lux Maa Awards 2011 function held in the city on Sunday was a glittering spectacle.
The event saw participation of stars not only from Tollywood but also from the Tamil film industry. In their glory, the stars admired the awards and most made their fathers proud on the Father's Day.
Nandamuri Balakrishna got the best hero award for his film Simha While the Critics Best Movie award was bagged by 'Prasthanam', the Critics Best Director award was presented to Radhakrishna, popularly known as 'Krish' for the film 'Vedam'.
The Critics' Best Female Actor was won by Anushka Shetty for her role in 'Vedam' and Critics' Best Male Actor was bagged by Prabhas for his performance in 'Darling'. The best comedian award was presented to Brahmanandam for 'Adhurs'.
Celebrating Father's Day, most actors, including Brahmanandam, Sai Kumar (Best Supporting Actor Male) and the Promising Face of the Year winner Tapsee dedicated their awards to their fathers.
Ace comedian Brahmanandam, as a mark of gratitude, dedicated his award to the late Allu Ramalingaiah. There were some emotional moments as well.
The Special Appreciation Award winner Nagayya, who won the award for his role 'Ramulu' in 'Vedam' was presented with a cash prize of Rs. 2 lakh, a first of its kind in the event. The cash prize was announced in a jiffy on stage following recommendation by comedian Ali.
'I am not connected to the film industry but my director and other actors supported me all through the film. Today, I am happy for winning this award,' said Nagayya, with a lump in his throat.
Hosted by popular television anchor Suma and comedian Ali, the event was a package of many performances, including concerts by singers Hemachandra and Gopika and special dance shows. The wit and humour of Ali left the audience in splits all through the event.
Actresses Vimala Raman, Charmee, and others entertained the audience with their exhilarating medley dance shows. Stars witnessing the show cast a spell on the audience.
