I don't believe in competition: Kajal
Hyderabad: Kajal Aggarwal had always been either number one or two on the roll call. 'That's because of my last name, Aggarwal,' she says. It had a flip side though. 'Invariably I would be sitting in the first bench during examinations,' shares Kajal laughing. Funnily enough, in the pecking order of Tollywood actresses her name figures prominently on the top.
'I am glad people think that I am number one but I personally don't believe in the number game. I believe there are enough roles for everyone in the industry,' says Kajal honestly brushing aside the issue of being on the top.
She admits that she is ambitious though. 'I am very amb'itious by nature and do every'thing in my power to achieve my dreams. I don't believe in competing with the rest of the world,' she adds.
Her look in the newly-released Dhada has been the talk of the town. 'I've always played bubbly characters in my previous films. This is the first time I am playing a reserved character. I play a girl who lost her mother at a very young age. It's a very stylish character and I sport a very slick, Ivy League kind of look. I thoroughly enjoyed working in the film,' she explains.
Kajal was apparently keen on dubbing for the film. 'I was going to dub for the film. But I was shooting abroad and they could not send the prints across. But Chinmayi did a great job,' says Kajal adding, 'I am going to dub for my next one though.'
She is currently shooting for the much-anticipated Tamil flick Maatran. KV Anand is directing the film with Suriya playing the lead. 'I am a great fan of Suriya and am very excited at the prospect of sharing screen space with him,' she shares. Suriya is playing five characters in the film, there's going to be no shortfall of hype.
Then there is the Mahesh Babu-starrer Businessman, scheduled to go on the floors in September. Kajal is very tight-lipped about the film though. 'I am not authorised to talk about the film. All I can say is that I am doing something I've never done before. My look and characterisation in the film is going to be a revelation,' she shares.
Kajal also has some Bollywood projects in the offing. 'I am in discussions with a couple of producers but it is too early to talk about them,' she says.
Kajal surely has a lot going for her and some would think she couldn't ask for more. Kajal however, has one dream role though. 'I want to play an action character a la Lara Croft in Tomb Raider or something on the lines of Charlie's Angels. Hopefully the directors are listening,' she says laughing.
Kajal has just come back from a vacation in Paris, her first in a long time, we learn. 'I've been working non-stop for the last two years. I needed a break and had a great time with my cousins. Now I am recharged,' she shares.
Though she's been living away from home since she started acting, her family has always been a big part of her life. 'My mother is always travelling with me and my dad and sister come to visit me often to make sure I don't miss being at home so much,' she shares.
Kajal, now, has competition in her own backyard with her sister, Nisha following in her footsteps. 'Though we used to tear each other's hair out when we were kids, we are very close. I am very fond of her and want to see her make a name for herself. But there's no competition. We never discuss work when at home,' she says.
Kajal doesn't believe in playing mentor to her little sister. 'I do advise her when she asks for it but she has to chart her own destiny. I am confident she will,' she says.
