Chiru returns as Uyyaalawada Narasimha Reddy
Hyderabad: Chiranjeevi will top off the 150th film of his long career by donning the role of a freedom fighter - Uyyaalawada Narasimha Reddy from Kurnool district, a 'Palegar' (Rayalaseema chieftan) who led the first revolts against British occupation of India, a decade ahead of the Sepoy Mutiny of 1857.
It is not known as to who will wield the megaphone for this milestone movie of the megastar. But it is reliably learnt that the choice would be between Krishna Vamsi of 'Ninne Pelladutha' fame, V.V. Vinayak ('Adurs') or a rank newcomer. As revealed by Mr. Chiranjeevi, it will be produced by his son Ramcharan Tej.
Nothing more is known about the project, be it the cast or the technicians as it is being kept under wraps. But it is understood that the team will be a coup of 'sorts' that will surely make waves in the Telugu film industry because Mr. Chiranjeevi will don the grease-paint after a gap of over three years. His fans last saw him on the screen in 'Shankardada Zindabad'
What remains to be seen is how Mr. Chiranjeevi will manage to give the dates and juggle his time between his political commitments and his renewed celluloid presence.
As for the story, it will revolve around the 'Palegar' of Koilakuntla, who refused to share revenues with the British once Rayalaseema was 'ceded'. On June 10, 1846, Reddy's army attacked the treasury at Koilakuntla and marched onwards, headed towards Cumbum in Prakasam district. When he killed a Forest Ranger at Rudravaram, Thomas Munroe, Collector of the Ceded districts ordered his capture.
A few months later, Reddy moved to the dense Nallamala forests. When the British forces intensified their effort in the forests, he came back to Koilakuntla and hid in Jagannatha Konda near Ramabhadrunipalle village.
The British captured the freedom fighter on October 6, 1846, and took him in a procession in Koilakuntla town. Reddy was the hanged as a warning to others who might revolt against the British occupation.
