Nag's team win Celebrity cricket cup
Ananthapur: The people of Ananthapur were more than entertained by their favourite stars of Tollywood, who battled it out on the cricket field, not just to entertain the crowds but also for a noble cause- The proceedings went for the District Women's Self Employment scheme; here on Sunday.
The people of Ananthapur thronged to the RDT Stadium to watch this cricket match with a difference. The stars did not disappoint; if the match was intensely fought, the entertainment provided to the crowds only added to the glamour on display in the stands thanks to the presence of the mascots, many of whom were leading ladies of the silver screen.
At the end of it all one side had to win and the others lose. Nagarjuna's Rayalaseema stars beat their opponents Balakrishna's Rayalaseema Lions by only two runs, in an intensely fought encounter.
Having won the toss the Rayalaseema Stars led by Srikanth, in place of Nagarjuna, chose to bat. They however, got off to a rocky start having lost both their openers with very few runs on the board. However, youngsters Raghu and Nitin steadied the rocking boat and scored merrily.
Raghu especially, dazzled with the bat. Eventually at the end of the stipulated 25 overs, Rayalaseema stars scored a healthy 171 at a strike rate of 6.82.
The Rayalaseema Lions took to the seemingly uphill task and their captain, Balakrishna played the sheet anchor by batting through till the last over. However, with only seven runs required of the last six balls, the Lions seemed to have lost their way and ended up losing by two runs.
The camaraderie between the two teams was there for all to see. Sporting spirit was on display throughout the match and the banter gave it the requisite competitive touch.
The runners up trophy was handed over to the losing Captain Balakrishna by the Anathapur MP, Mr Anatha Venkata Rami Reddy, while the victorious Captain Srikanth was handed over the winner's trophy by the State Revenue Minister, Mr Raghuveera Reddy.
The two captains thanked the crowd for coming to watch them play and observed that the stars would continue their support for any noble cause.
