Three-year ban on the 'other woman'
Bangalore: Tollywood actress Nikita Thukral, known for her movies such as Anusuya, who was named in an FIR filed by Kannada actor Darshan's wife Vijayalakshmi as the main reason for their marital discord, has been banned by Kannada film producers for three years for 'creating domestic harmony of a fellow actor'.
Nikita, who hails from Punjab and works in many southern films, however, denied having an affair with Kannada moviedom's leading actor and says the ban is 'ridiculous'. She claims that no one had contacted her for her version of events leading to Darshan allegedly beating up his wife and threatening her with a revolver.
The Kannada Film Producers' Association (KFPA) ban comes three days after Darshan was arrested following a complaint by his wife. Vijayalakshmi had alleged that Darshan had beaten her and threatened her with a firearm but she later withdrew the complaint, a police official claimed. The argument was reportedly over the alleged affair with Nikita.
"If Nikita apologises for her behaviour and says she will just work in films and not get involved in domestic affairs of fellow actors, we will withdraw the ban," KFPA president Munirathnam said.
What seems strange is that while Nikita, a multilingual actor, has been banned, Darshan, the perpetrator of violence, appears to have been allowed to go scot free by the producers.
'We felt that Nikita was responsible for creating a big storm in Darshan's family life,' actor-producer Rockline Venkatesh told the media. 'A stringent initiative is needed against her. Thus, the KFPA decided that none of the producers should sign her up for three years,' Venkatesh added.
Another KFPA official said the ban will not apply to the two films which are still being shot, including Krantiveera Sangolli Rayyanna, in which she is paired with Darshan.
Nikita slammed the KFPA decision and told a local news channel: 'The KFPA should give me proof about an affair with Darshan. I will voluntarily walk out of the Kannada film industry.' The actress said that she has nothing to do with the actor's personal life. 'A few people have claimed that I am very close to Darshan.
I am not a close friend of any one in Kannada film industry.' She said the decision has not only spoiled her image, but will 'also cast aspersions on my professional and public conduct'.
Darshan is presently under a 14-day judicial custody, and has been admitted to the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Chest Diseases after he was diagnosed with mild liver infection and bronchial asthma.
Nikita has acted in Kannada, Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam films, but shot into fame after her popular item number Kodana Kodi in the Tamil movie Saroja.
While she is presently shooting for Apartment, the other Telugu movies she has worked in include Chintakayala Ravi in a special appearance, Bhadradri, Anusuya, Don' and Maharajsri. In Kannada, she has appeared in Vamshi, Nariya Seere Kadda, Prince and Yodha.
