Choreographer Salim no more Hyderabad: He has the distinction of choreographing three Chief Ministers of two states and a known figure in Tollywood and Bollywood who rose to great heights with his dance numbers but died in penury as the end of many talented artistes came; Salim, the choreographer, died at the age of 80 on Friday according to a delayed report.
From basic steps to box steps and lock steps to classical dances, Nrutyam'Salim remained a constant name on the titles scroll for over three decades in Telugu and Tamil films, so in some of the Hindi films.
He provided choreography to MGR, NTR and Jayalalithaa the three Chief Ministers besides ANR, Krishna, Chiranjeevi, Dilip Kumar and nearly two generations of lead artistes and breathed his last at Chennai. He is survived by his wife and two daughters.
As a man who knows the pulse of the mass, his numbers were identified with common man and songs, group songs in particular, did have a signature of Salim. He was dance director for nearly 300 films in Telugu, Tamil, Malyalam, Kannada and Hindi.
