Tollywood vs Censor Board HYDERABAD, Oct 30 (INN): Strange are the ways of film industry when it comes to dealing with government. Recently some producers met the Chief Minister K Kiran Kumar Reddy seeking sops on entertainment tax.
On the other hand, Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) is trying hard to meet the producers for the second time to sort out some of the problems as well.
The Film Producers sought reduction of Entertainment Tax to homemade films and double the tax for dubbed versions as there is a yawning gap in the cost of production of the two variants. There was no official version, but the Council maintains that the Chief Minister took a positive note of their presentation.
On the other hand CBFC is likely to hold a meeting in November after the July 14 talks at did not break any ice AP Film Chamber of Commerce. The Board feels that the rules are being bypassed and censorship process is not being followed by the producers strictly.
The CBFC had introduced online submission of applications for film censorship all over the country and in its regional offices but the local unit of CBFC did not receive a single application, barring for a dubbed movie.
The original was already viewed by the Chennai unit. The other issue being describing the length of the film. While the film shown is shorter, in some cases, additional scenes are introduced during release. Same is the case of some objectionable dialogues.
"In the meeting that is being scheduled for next month, the film industry will be conveyed what is expected from them so that film certification becomes a smooth process.
The film chamber has also responded positively when some issues were brought to its notice in recent times when some filmmakers tried to pass off dubbed films as straight films," CBFC official said. How the give and take policy works out with the industry and government, only time will tell.
