Star kids or Child labour? Hyderabad: Children taking part in television shows, films and other allied fields, though heartening, has come to general acceptance, what with the parents, in some cases, encouraging them.
Labour department officials, sworn to eradicate child labour, often raid small time hotels, kiosks, repairs shops and road side enterprises and book cases for employing children and parents are warned'fine.
What about the realty shows, various game shows involving children? Singing can be an exception as it can be considered as an extra-circular activity and can go with studies.
There were shows where children were dancing to item songs though their age and physic in no way match to the expressions and sway of the original number.
There were a number of debates all over with parents vociferously arguing that they are willing and have taken pains to train the kids in the manner in which they are dancing for the television show. The argument has no answer but it lacks moral and ethical elements.
To shake a leg or jut a hip one needs maturity and this can be done only after the person has a developed body. You also have a panel of judges who try to analyze the performance in a bid to project their personality or caliber.
Though the number of such shows has come down, still there are some shows beamed by a couple of channels and some are dangerous as well.
Now acrobatic and group dances have taken over with kids not just taking part but also anchoring some programmes.
Cute kids in the age groups of nine-fourteen are often seen dancing or participating in shows which are beyond their age limit.
Some of the dances and feats are dangerous as well. Though they have rehearsed it many a time, it has a telling effect on the sensitive nerve.
The statutory warning like do not try this at home does not work. Remember WWF has spoiled a whole generation of kids along with some cartoon serials.
