Review : Nippu fails to evoke fire Hyderabad: If you are going into a screen nearby to watch 'Nippu' expecting that the film will have all necessary elements of a Ravi Teja starrer, you will be not be disappointed.
But, if the concerned elements are not presented in manner they ought to be, then we have a not-so-happening film and 'Nippu' falls into the second category.
The film is about Surya (Ravi Teja) and Sri Ram who are best friends and can do anything for each other's happiness. Sri works in Saudi Arabia but an unfortunate incident leading to the death of his girl friend Gauthami (Bhavana) lands him behind bars.
He is about to be hanged as police assume that he is behind the death(Saudi police arrest him without investigating the death, sounds sensible?).
The only way he can be pardoned is when Gauthami's parents forgive him by signing the mercy petition. Surya takes the responsibility of it.
And in unexpected turn of events, Gauthami's father (Pradeep Rawat) turns out to be the arch nemesis of Surya. How does Surya save his friend forms the rest of the story.
Within the first five minutes of the film, one is greeted with cars and people flying like birds in the air suggesting that there is nothing new in the film. It was almost like a bad omen for things to follow.
Tried and tested comedy, over the top action, melo-drama and sub-plots come as a package in 'Nippu' and sadly none enthralls.
Gunasekhar known for his big sets has not created any special set for the film which is good as it would have anyway been wasted with a script that is found lacking in many ways.
There is nothing new in terms of content and dialogues add no value to the film. There aren't any good points to ponder about as the film commits error after errors, notwithstanding the good comedy timing by Ravi Teja.
There is Brahmandam too in the film. But the scenes between him and Ravi Teja are wasted as they hardly evoked any laughter; if it was intended in the first place.
Then there is Brahmaji, who does provide some entertainment but not enough to save the film. Sequences like Meghana (Deeksha Seth) winning a hurdle completion, Surya showing her how to do skipping at a faster notch with both of them in the fray are amateurishly shot and they only add more misery to the viewer.
Ravi Teja has done this type of roles many a times and it is high time that he chooses a role which allows him to get out of his comfort zone.
Deeksha Seth is a disappointment. If there's one performance that can be lauded in the film, then it should be of Rajendra Prasad who plays Sri Ram's father in the film.
It's sad to see an accomplished actor like him not getting a meaty character. On the whole, while watching 'Nippu' one is tempted to use a fire extinguisher.
It is disheartening to see Gunasekhar, who churned out sensible films like 'Okkadu' and 'Manoharam' in the past, even thinking of a subject like 'Nippu' which is filled with so many loopholes and failing to correct it.
Just because you have necessary commercial elements in the script, it doesn't mean that you defy every other logic.
It is time that filmmakers give some credit to the sensibilities of audience. Highly avoidable at any given cost even for the diehard Ravi Teja fans!
