Bio-pics great hits, Vidya to Meryl Streep Hyderabad: It seems biopics have taken the film industry by storm. Gracious lady Meryl Streep won the prestigious Best Actress Oscar for her sterling performance as Margaret Tatcher in the film The Iron Lady.
Vidya Balan has won the Filmfare and Star Dust Awards for best actress for portraying the role of south Indian film star, Silk Smitha in The Dirty Picture.
While, Maggie- as the former British Prime Minister was called, helped Conservatives to score a resounding victory and ruled with an Iron hand, Smitha won the hearts of many fans but struggled to keep up with her image and popularity in real life and committed suicide.
This is Mary Streep's 17th Oscar nomination and her third Award, first being Kramer vs Kramer.
Back to Oscars, Artist bagged the best picture and best actor (Jean Dujardin) and best direction (Michel Hazanavicius. Hugo was the other picture to share honours with The Artist to claim five Oscars.
