Visakhapatnam port achieves record handling of 80 MMT cargo in 327 days
Fastest-ever achievement of 80 MMT in 92-year history of the Port
Visakhapatnam: Under the leadership of M. Angamuthu, Chairperson of VPA, the port has achieved a historic milestone. In just 327 days, from February 21 to March 27 2026, the Port handled an astonishing 80 Million Metric Tonnes (80,082,108 MT) of cargo. This marks the fastest-ever achievement of 80 MMT in the illustrious 92-year history of the Port.
Dr. Angamuthu's consistent motivation and strategic vision have been instrumental in steering the VPA team towards the ambitious financial year target of 90 MMT. With strong leadership, he remains confident that the Port will successfully accomplish this challenging milestone.
This remarkable performance has significantly surpassed the previous records: The port achieved 80.11 MMT in 357 days on March 23rd, 2025, during FY 2024'25. Similarly 80.02 MMT achieved in 362 days on March 27th, 2024, during FY 2023'24.
This achievement reflects VPA's operational excellence, enhanced efficiency, strong stakeholder coordination, and sustained growth momentum in cargo handling.
Dr. Angamuthu expressed his gratitude to the entire VPA team for their dedicated efforts in achieving this milestone in record time. He congratulated all stakeholders for their coordinated performance and expressed confidence that the Port will successfully achieve the ambitious target of 90 MMT during the current financial year.
