Skyroot Vikram-1 Launch Opens India's Private Space Era
Sriharikota, July 18, 2026: Hyderabad-based Skyroot Aerospace on Saturday successfully launched Vikram-1, India's first privately developed orbital-class launch vehicle, under Mission Aagaman, marking a historic milestone for the country's rapidly expanding private space industry. The successful mission places India among a select group of nations where private companies have independently developed and launched orbital-class rockets.
The maiden flight successfully validated several critical technologies, including propulsion systems, stage separation, guidance, navigation and control mechanisms, while carrying multiple technology demonstration payloads for Indian and international customers. Designed to place small satellites into Low Earth Orbit, Vikram-1 is expected to strengthen India's presence in the fast-growing global commercial launch market.
