1. A farmer would now be eligible for compensation even if his crop is damaged by untimely rains and hail storms since they are now accepted as calamities which was not the case earlier.
2. A farmer would now be eligible even if his crop is damaged only to the extent of 33%. Till recently,such compensation is paid only if the crop damage is to the extent of 50%.
3. A farmer is now eligible for increased compensation of 50% higher than in the past.
4. The kith and kin of any person killed in a calamity is now entitled to Rs.4.00 lakh as against only Rs.1.20 lakh till recently.
5. A farmer should now get a Soil Health Card which gives details of the nature and deficiencies of his land and what crops are most suited for it. 4 crore such cards will be issued in the next 3 years. Farmers should approach the concerned authorities for them.
6. Farmers should know that 27 new food parks are coming up and accordingly plan their crops and marketing.
7. Masssive efforts are being made to increase farm productivity through expanding irrigation facilities, bank credit to Rs.8.50 lakh crores per year, ensuring fertilizer availability through increased production from existing plants and reviving urea plants at Gorakhpur, Badgam, Talcher, Ramagundam, Barauni etc.
8. For the first time, farmers and the poor can obtain a pension of up to Rs.5,000 per month when they reach the age of 60 years by joining the Atal Pension Yojana with affordable premium.
9. Farmers be assured that the Minimum Support Price Mechanism would continue since this Government rolled back efforts to end MSP in our country at WTO.
